Mike Corrado: Critically Acclaimed Singer / Songwriter / Recording Artist / Marine (Edwin McCain, Train, Hootie & the Blowfish)

On this episode of The Jay Franze Show, Jay welcomes singer-songwriter Mike Corrado to discuss his music career and service in the US Marine Corps. Mike’s music is a blend of New Country, Pop, Rock, and Americana, which he simply calls “American Music.” Jay and Mike discuss the inspiration behind his songs, including “Still in the Fight,” an anthem for recovering service members, and “Stand,” a tribute to service men and women past and present.

Mike shares his journey from playing beach bars while stationed at Camp Lejeune to opening for national acts such as Edwin McCain, Train, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Derek Trucks Band. He also talks about his deployment to Fallujah, Iraq, where he continued to write, record and perform music. Mike’s song “On My Watch Tonight” featuring Edwin McCain, released just two months before his deployment, started receiving heavy radio play in North Carolina. In contrast, another song, “Get By,” was licensed by Sony/Tristar and used in the hit TV show Joan of Arcadia.

Mike also shares his experience serving as the Executive Officer for the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment, where he was inspired to write “Still in the Fight.” The music video for the song was shot in and around Greenville, South Carolina. It featured several Marine wounded warriors Mike served with, including Cpl William Kyle Carpenter, who later received the Medal of Honor.

Jay and Mike also talk about Grunt Tunes, a music production studio that Mike started to help other service members and his local community write, record, and release music. Mike shares his passion for music therapy and his work with wounded warriors. He also discusses being featured in Taylor Guitar’s national advertisement campaign “Step Forward: Music is Waiting.”

This episode is a powerful and inspiring conversation about music, service, and passion. Mike Corrado’s story and music will uplift and motivate you to pursue your passions.
